Title: Wave
Medium: Copper, brass, reconstructed stone Size: 12”H x 11”W x 17”L Every artist’s ideas often culminate in a marriage between subject matter and materials. Which material will do the job best? I’ve chosen a smooth malleable material like copper, to express the characteristics of a wave. Its ability to submit as it’s pounded and shaped, without breaking, makes it ideal. Yet, in thicker form, it is strong enough to hold a pose. Too, it can be heated on the surface to bring out the molecular colours of the metal. In this case, the aqua-coloured sweeps along with darker oxidized wisps are the perfect colours to accompany the bright copper sheen of the backside of the wave. 2011 |
